FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – NEW Locations! MORE Events! BIGGER Reach! National STOL is Expanding; Adding New Event Locations to the 2023 Season Schedule!

The National STOL Series is excited to announce their 2023 Season Schedule and  new, exciting changes.

The 2023 season series kicks off March 18 in Jennings, Louisiana, at the 3rd Annual Swamp STOL Competition & Fly-in. Known for its southern charm, Cajun flair, and local musical talent Swamp STOL has fast become both a competitor and fan favorite.

Next, the series heads to Somerton Airport in Yuma County, Arizona, for Outlaw STOL. This one-day competition was established in 2020 by Jonathan Stains, and it is the second year that National STOL has partnered with the event.

Wayne, Nebraska, is the first new stop on the season schedule, making it the most centrally located event of the Series. The Wayne America Fly In is making STOL history as the only event to host both National STOL and STOL DRAG Competitions at a single event.

Sodbusters STOL has found its home! This August will be the event’s second year at Hartford Municipal Airport, the weekend before AirVenture and just a 30 minute flight to Oshkosh!

Rocky Mountain STOL, hosted in the picturesque town of Pinedale, Wyoming by Emblem Aviation, is joining the Series this season after a wildly successful showing at their inaugural event last August. The event quickly developed a reputation for spoiling pilots with breakfast, ice cream, and a bus ride up to the gorgeous Half Moon Lake Lodge for an amazing four course meal, creating a fully immersive experience into all that Pinedale has to offer.

Lonestar STOL, the Series’ founding event, will remain in Texas for its 4th year!  For the past 3 years, Lonestar STOL also doubled as the Series Season Championship. For the first time since its inception, the Series will host their Season Championships as a stand-alone event in December, with date and location to be announced.

Other new events being introduced to the season schedule are the Isle Fly-In at MIlle Lacs Lake in Isle, Minnesota (in conjunction with their Annual Breakfast Fly In for 600 guests), and Music City STOL in Nashville this September.

A Mid-Atlantic location is currently in early planning phases. Stay tuned for dates and locations to be announced in the near future! Please note that all events are tentative and subject to change in date or location until the time registration opens.

The 2023 Season is made possible by the commitment and support of the following sponsors: Legend Aircraft; Ladd Gardner Aviation Insurance; DUC Propellers USA; Sarasota Avionics; Flying Eyes Optics; FlightHelmet.com; Flight Outfitters; McFarlane Aviation Products/MT Propeller; Lift Aviation; AirTech Coatings; USATrailersDirect.com, the official trailer provider of National STOL; and Rugged Radios,  the official communications partner of the National STOL Series.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Stearman Field STOL, that was to be presented this month by the Husky National STOL Series has been removed from their 2022 Season Calendar

Due to unforeseen logistical challenges, The Husky National STOL Series has canceled the Stearman Field STOL event that was scheduled to take place on June 18th in Benton, Kansas,

The next event of the calendar is the Sodbusters STOL Competition to be hosted at Hartford Municipal Airport (HXG) in Hartford, Wisconsin; the weekend before AirVenture, it’s STOL to Oshkosh!

A detailed schedule of events and registration information for Sodbusters STOL can be found at: https://nationalstol.com/2022-sodbusters-stol-competition/

We have other exciting things in the works – keep an eye out for more information to come!

The Husky National STOL Series mourns the loss of our friend and STOLDrag competitor, Tom Dafoe, who passed away this weekend in Wayne, Nebraska. We ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Safety remains National STOL’s first priority. As such, we remain committed to both pilot & attendee safety at our upcoming SoCal STOL Event in Tehachapi, California. Since our first event in 2020, our established rules & procedures are in place to protect everyone. We have specific rules regarding air bosses, max rate climbs, conducting abrupt maneuvers and go-arounds; implemented with the sole purpose of reducing the risk of incident. National STOL Rules and Regulations can be viewed and downloaded at https://nationalstol.com/therules/

After careful consideration, the SoCal STOL event will continue as scheduled for this upcoming Memorial Day weekend, May 28 in Tehachapi, California. We hope you will come out and experience everything the town of Tehachapi has to offer, and to see some amazing pilots compete in California’s first Husky National STOL Competition.

As we are committed to safety, if you have any safety concerns or suggestions you are encouraged to contact us at info@nationalstol.com or we will make ourselves available to speak with you directly at the event.

We send our deepest sympathy and condolences to the Dafoe family in this difficult time. The Tom Dafoe Memorial Fund has been established through GoFundMe, to honor his life and to help support his wife and five children. https://www.gofundme.com/f/76yg4e-tom-dafoe-memorial-fund

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – The Series adds 3 new events to their schedule!

The Husky National STOL Series is delighted to announce the addition of 3 new events to the 2022 season!

The first stop of the year was Outlaw STOL at Somerton Airport in Yuma County, Arizona. This was a one day competition, established in 2020 by Jonathan Stains. Husky National announced their partnership with the event early January.

The Series is headed to the California Transverse Ranges for the SoCal STOL competition that will take place in the city of Tehachapi. SoCal STOL is scheduled to be a two-day event, and currently holds the title as Husky National STOL’ s highest altitude event at 4,001 feet above sea level.

Last but certainly not least, a welcome addition to the calendar is a stop at Stearman Field Fly In & Car Show in Benton, Kansas in June. National STOL is honored to be hosted by Clemmens Aviation at their home field during this annual event.

Other notable changes to the 2022 series schedule is Swamp STOL’s shift from the sweltering summer month of June to a much cooler March. Swamp STOL founder, Col. Matthew Peterson is in cahoots with the Jefferson Davis Parish and plans to WOW you with his southern charm and Cajun flair, by bringing in 300 pounds of fresh crawfish for a huge crawfish boil; and no Louisiana style gathering would be complete without jambalaya and the Bernie Allen Band! All this is included with your pilot or volunteer registration to Swamp STOL Deux!

Sodbusters STOL is making serious moves again! Founded by Jeff Pohl in 2019, the inaugural event was hosted the weekend after AirVenture in Jeff’s hometown of Milaca, Minnesota. National STOL teamed up with him in 2021 and relocated the competition to Brainerd, Minnesota, staying in keeping with the previous year’s weekend after Oshkosh.

The series decided to really shake things up this year for the North Central Event. Not only is Sodbusters STOL relocating out of state to Hartford, Wisconsin, just a hop skip and a jump-backwards into July, the weekend BEFORE AirAdventure! It’s STOL2OSH folks!

Tentatively, the Series is scheduled to travel to the great state of Georgia in September. We’ll see you all just south of Atlanta in Newnan, Georgia at the Newnan-Coweta County Airport! More details are forthcoming as we finalize this event.

And now the moment you’ve been waiting for, Husky National STOL Series Season presents it’s Official 2022 Season Schedule.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – The HUSKY National STOL Series to Partner with Outlaw STOL, adding an Arizona stop to the competition’s 2022 Season Tour.

The Husky National STOL Series is expanding! We are excited to announce that we are partnering with Outlaw STOL, adding the event to our 2022 Competition Series.

Founded in 2021 by Jonathan Stains, who is active duty military, a pilot, and a skydiver, Outlaw STOL & Fly-In will be held on February 25th and 26th at Somerton Airport (54AZ), Somerton, AZ.

Following his return from Afghanistan, Jonathan began flying in the Pacific Northwest, where he was introduced into a large but very close-knit flying community. In 2020 he was relocated and stationed in Yuma, Arizona, leaving behind this aviation family. He missed the weekend fly-ins, having friends and family in general aviation, and wanted to recreate that culture in Yuma and the surrounding area.

Inspired by the cowboy crop duster style of the Southwest and the Bush flyers of the Northwest, Outlaw STOL was born with the support of Somerton Airport owner, Eric Saltzer, and other local businesses. The Husky National STOL Series shares Jonathan’s passion for growing & preserving the general aviation community & culture, and is honored he chose to partner with us.

This partnership brings a new level of competition to the Somerton event; Outlaw STOL has an already-established baseline of local support and pilots registering from all over the U.S. & Canada. In the event’s second year, these pilots will now compete in the points race toward the Husky National STOL Series’ 2022 Season Championship with Class Champions joining in the fight to maintain their titles. Husky National STOL and Outlaw STOL are excited to see this partnership propel the competition to new heights!
